REG recently organized the 2nd regional workshop on EU funding, in cooperation with the Nis Center of Excellence and Innovation (a USAID legacy), the Nis Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Nis Cluster for Advanced Technology (NiCAT).
This is the second step of the initiative to create an ICT cluster network in the Balkans and Black sea region. The initiative started with a conference organized by Foundation ICT Cluster and the Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications within the Bulgarian chairmanship of the “Black Sea Economic Cooperation" in April, 2014.
Twenty IT representatives from Serbia, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Greece were present. Following the first regional workshop in Novi Sad, led by the Nis Cluster for Advanced Technologies and the Bulgarian ICT Cluster, a regional multi-country bid was initiated. At the second workshop, the group finalized the concept for the EU bid through the COSME funding mechanism, and discussed possibilities for possible future joint EU bids in 2015. Additionally, a regional MoU was signed, establishing a Black Sea – Balkans Regional ICT Cluster Network which includes 16 organizations from 10 countries.
The main objective of the network is to enhance cooperation between ICT clusters and to create more business opportunities by supporting innovation and fostering collaboration for joint research projects.
