The fourth event in the REG Project’s #FTW series took place November 8-9th in Gyumri Information Technologies Center as part of InnoWeekend 2014, an overarching Armenian entrepreneurship weekend. InnoWeekend was coordinated by Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia (MIC), and encompassed #ArmeniaFTW events, Startup Weekend Armenia-Turkey, and the annual Microsoft-sponsored hackacthon (YAN). #ArmeniaFTW attracted many young tech entrepreneurs, with a total of 300 visitors registered on Day 1 and 250 registered on Day 2.
During Day 1, more than 100 people attended the keynote presentation to enrich their knowledge about startup ecosystems, accelerators and early-stage investments. On Day 2, more than three people attended the startup pitches and awards. The jury for the start-up contest consisted of #FTW speakers as well as leading local investors and entrepreneurs. This jury selected two winners from a total of 16 pitches - Sololearn and SkyCriptor.
Sololearn, a company from Yerevan, is a mobile learning platform offering 14 interactive and gaming applications in the fields of programming, business, and photography. It is available for Android and Windows, and has already been downloaded over 350,000 times.
SkyCriptor, a company from Gyumri, is a cloud-based solution for data encoding and can be used by people without special knowledge and skills in encoding.
As an award, both companies are fast-tracked to pitch to the investment committees of Happy Farm accelerator (Kiev) and StartupWiseGuys accelerator (Tallinn) for participation in their programs and for seed investment.
