So far LBD retreat has been a valuable learning experience for everyone involved. The Park Rangers worked as wildlife guides for the first time, two who were very good and are ready to work commercially. CZIP showed us how to take samples for DNA analysis and setting camera traps. The group learned about the Montenegro Large Carnivore Survey which CZIP are organizing for the National Parks. REG already put CZIP in contact with Biosphere Expeditions who want to run tours in Montenegro in 2020 (potentially end of 2019), for paying guests to take part in monitoring and survey work in Durmitor National Park and Piva Nature Park. In addition, the results of the survey will help the National Parks in Montenegro to develop tourism management plans. The group also worked with local craft makers and produced their own wood carved Bear souvenirs. Local families and businesses provided meals and also gave demonstrations in cooking using ingredients from the National Parks. We have visited and stayed at a range of accommodation types, all locally owned.
Attendees included: Regent Travel, (also Rainbow Travel as a partner), Earthchangers and PhotoTOUR. Participating local Tour Operators include: NOMAD, RAMS, NorthTour, Nadgora Eco-retreat, Durmitor Adventures and HM Durmitor. CZIP environmental NGO, Biogradska Gora and Durmitor National Parks helped to deliver the activities.
