Strengthening Value Chains: Information Technology

REG’s IT component is meant to increase awareness and build capacity of service providers to support the sector in attaining international standards and certifications for quality products, increase linkages of firms in the region with potential customers in the EU, Middle East, Turkey, and other key markets, increase awareness and build capacity of IT service providers to participate in EU funded programs (including identification of activities and partners, development of bid, capacity building of local organizations/personnel), and increase awareness and build capacity of firms in other targeted sectors on the potential benefits of IT tools and services. In order to achieve those goals, REG takes a dual focus of supporting advanced/later stage companies to compete in export markets, and early stage companies/ start-ups by strengthening business service providers in this sector.

Advanced/later stage companies receive support in quality standards, and assistance to participate in B2B and trade missions in clearly identified markets. In addition, the project seeks to build capacity of other REG VCs to use IT to improve their products and services, particularly tourism and agriculture. They also receive assistance to access EU funding. All of the E&E countries targeted by the REG project could use, in different forms, EU funds in order to develop their IT sectors

Early stage companies and start-ups: REG works to strengthen the network of incubators, accelerators, innovation and entrepreneurship centers. This network needs to expand its role and leadership in supporting the start-up ecosystem and also in attracting the investors interested in the region. See also entrepreneurship page.

Current Work: REG recently completed two surveys to identify the key IT industry standards and certificates that have impact on the quality of processes and productivity on the companies.  Those studies will be used to plan standards and certifications training. Download study 1 and study 2.
