Visits carried out from 5 to 11 February 2017 in Italy by Eyvaz Samedov, Vagif Tagiyev, Elnur Mahmudov, Farid Firidunov, Samir Salahov, Arzu Guliyev, Zaur Hajiyev, Eldaniz Osmanov and George Melton USAID consultant, under the guidance of Dr. Damiano Avanzato

Summary

The visits were organized to update the participants on techniques of pomegranate cultivation and the related nurseries activities, the latter sector to which visitors were very interested. Visits and meetings were also organized to factory making pomegranate processing machines and nursery equipment. The study tour also included a visit to the National Research Center fruit. A special meeting was organized with traders of pomegranate at the largest Italian Agrofood Marketing Center. The study tour has been implemented following the planned schedule (see Annex 1), with the only exception of the change of accommodation from Cesena to Rovigo during the last two nights, which has provided a cheaper solution and was meant more convenient for the visit to the local nursery Zanzi, which unfortunately was at the end cancelled due to Mr. Zanzi’s extended engagements at the Fruitlogistica exhibition in Berlin. However, Mr. Zanzi has confirmed his interest in staying in contact with the Azerbaijan group and consider possible co-operation. Mr. Zanzi can be easily contacted through Dr. Damiamo Avanzato and myself.
